Serpent and Dove

Serpent and Dove by Shelby Mahurin was a fun fantasy adventure!  Our main characters are Louise le Blanc (Lou), who is a witch; Reid Diggory.  Lou has fled her coven and lives in hiding in the stressful town of Cesarine.  It is during a time where witch hunts are the trend, and the church has its own army for the witches...Chasseurs.

Reid Diggory is a sworn Chasseur.  He has faithfully lived his life to the motto thou shalt not suffer a witch to live.  Of course, all that changes when his path crosses with Lou's, and they are married.

The battle between the witches and the church is heating up fast, and Lou also has enemies looking for her. She is unable to ignore her growing feelings for Reid, yet powerless to change what she is, and a choice will need to be made....and love makes fools of us all.

I really enjoyed Lou.  She reminded me of Eliza Doolittle from "My Fair Lady".  She is rough around the edges, humorous, and has the grit needed to do what it takes to survive.  She also has a big heart.  Watching her grow and evolve through the story was fun.

Reid Diggory was the total opposite of Lou.  He is a straight arrow....until he starts to see that not everything is black and white.

And of course, witches.  Perfect fantasy read on witches.  There are good ones, and there are bad ones.  I felt that Mahurin did a great job on describing the witches, and the setting for them.

I would rate this book 4/5.  Only thing that could be of note is that there is swearing and a love scene.  I would recommend this for 14 years and up.
